Taken during my last visit to my village, This elephant is known by the name managalamkunne ayyapan, one of the well known elephants in kerala for his strength and beauty
The most beautiful elephant I ever saw! I love the pink colors which I 've never seen before on an elephant. I 've seen a movie about catching, taming an training elephants and I admire the people whose business this is. They are masters, and at the same time lovers of the strongest land animal. Beautiful picture, too, but I'd like to see the master hidden behind the trunk :)

@Illuci: Thank you for your comment; I shall post one more along with the master (the mahout)
This exact moment I am writing a term paper about the horrors of Poaching and killing Elephants for Ivory and Meat. This image gives me hope that some elephants are still happy and healthy... Great shot

@Stefan: I shall try to post some more snaps that I have taken during the festival seasons in kerala(India). Also I will be happy to help you in this regard, I am very found of elephants.
What a beautiful elephant. The master hiding behind his leg gives one the feeling of how massive this animal is. I have never before seen one with a speckled pink trunk before. Also notice the red between his eyes and on his ears. It must be a ceremonial practice. Very nice.

Wow!! This is one handsome tusker! Awesome details.. I used to watch them walk down roads at my Mom's village when I was a kid. Where was this shot from, by the way?
